A team of music theatre students, faculty and staff took part in Oakville’s Terry Fox run yesterday, raising over $2,200 for cancer research in the process.  Ward 2 Councillor and run organizer, Pam Damoff, welcomed the team and invited them to sing the national anthem before the run’s start.  Mayor Rob Burton was also on hand, and referenced the Canadian Music Theatre Project’s upcoming production of Marathon of Hope in his opening remarks.

“The community embraced our team and many photographers were eager to snap our group,” says Michael Rubinoff, a team member and Associate Dean in FAAD.  “All along the route organizers thanked Sheridan for being a part of the run. It was a proud day for all of us and we hope this will become a new Sheridan/Oakville tradition.”

shutterhighschoolkids

“Take Your Kids to Work” day is an annual, nationwide program that helps Grade 9 students develop an appreciation for their parents’ careers, start exploring career options and gain a better understanding of many  available career choices.  The goal of this program is to give insight into the importance of schools and businesses to promote and support continuous learning and successful transitions into the working world for young people.

As a pilot program, the college has planned an interactive half-day of events at our Trafalgar campus with activities and learning opportunities for the annual “Take Your Kids to Work Day” on Wednesday November 6, 2013.  The day will begin with an inspiring welcome from President Jeff Zabudsky, followed by a tour of the Trafalgar campus and a career workshop where they will have an opportunity to learn more about their interests and strengths.   The half day will wrap up with a lunch for the students and parents who are welcome to join their son or daughter to hear more about what their children learned. For the second half of their day the grade 9 students will return to their parent’s regular workplace and job shadow their parents for the remainder of the day.

If you are an employee with a child in grade 9 and would like to register your child to attend the half-day session at Trafalgar on November 6, 2013, please take a few moments to complete the registration survey by Tuesday October 29, 2013.
